As I was lying in bed this morning I realised that it was the Salford Triathlon today. It seemed like a nice enough day and I had loads of things to do so, in the best tradition of procrastination, I headed out on my bike with my camera to see what sort of shots I could get. I went via a friend's in Chorlton, then to the Quays where I caught the end of the elite women's race; from there I walked/cycled around the area whilst the Men's elite race was happening, taking various photos from different vantage points. It was quite nice chatting to some of the other spectators there - I was chatting with an old gentleman who'd come over from Rusholme, and a young man from the US who participated in triathlons himself. He was in the UK for a wedding, but had participated in a New York triathlon a few weeks ago, so he was able to explain various bits of the race to me and chat about it all!

It was very breezy but sunny with broken cloud - probably very good conditions for it, really. However, the breeze affected me on my bike (as it tends to do) on the way back in particular through Trafford Park. Still, nothing to be done about it!

I reckon my average speed on the roads was actually better than that above - because I was consistently going along at 12-15mph when it wasn't too breezy (at one point I was actually going at a reasonable pace of 18-19 but that was from Stretford to Chorlton and only over a mile or so!).

It was a nice enough day out - I couldn't really miss it as it's not every day that you have a world championship on your doorstep! It gave me some much needed exercise and sun, too, and I feel a lot better for it. I suppose I ought to get on with the tasks I've got to do, really...

NB the major disparity between the GPS and cycle computer is because when I was walking round the Quays I detached the computer from the bike - but had my GPS round my neck...
