After some slight shenanigans with my chainset at the end of last year in December where I had problems using the various gears, I took it back to my local bike shop where they tweaked it all again. Hurrah, thought I, perhaps it was all sorted.

I took my bike out yesterday - to Reddish Vale again - because it was dry (well, not raining!) and not too cold. I started at the visitor centre and just explored some of the tracks around the Reddish Vale park area; my legs were whinging because I've not been out for a while (plus I've been under the weather for the past month or so)! I cycled into Stockport town centre and back again - nothing too spectacular.

I was however a bit miffed when back in Reddish Vale country park, whilst going a slight uphill on a slightly muddy track, my chain snapped. Grr, thought I, since it wasn't actually that old a chain; nor was it it in too bad condition. Still, I had a chain tool so proceeded to try to fix the chain. I took a link out of the chain, and managed to get the pin about 80% of the way in... and then my chain tool broke too! Distinctly unimpressed at this point I had no choice but to continue and hope that the chain would hold (expecting it to break again). Sure enough, about half a mile further on the chain broke again, resigning me to walk the remaining mile or so back to the car park. It wasn't a bad walk as it was a nice enough day but it would have been more fun on the bike!

The bike now has a new chain (if I've put it on correctly) and has been cleaned (ooh, it must think it's Christmas!) and is ready to go again. Whether I'm ready or not I'm not sure... I was knackered yesterday. I need to phase myself into it again, I think!
