So, 2007 then. Following the discovery that my bottom bracket had crumbled at the end of last year, the first thing was to take my bike in for an overdue service, get the bottom bracket fixed and a new chain. Also recommended was a new set of cogs/sprockets on the back wheel. Consequently I have a bike back again... semi-keen to see how it performed, I thought I'd go out today.

January. Manchester. Rain. That just about sums it up really. I explored by bike the main roads out towards Urmston and Flixton - I chose a route that was entirely on roads and I'm glad I did, as I was beginning to conk out by about mile 4 or 5! It was drizzling, and although not freezing, cold enough to get cold if I stopped for any significant amount of time - so I just pootled along at a steady 12mph ish for most of it, deciding to stop off in Sale on the way back for a sarnie.

Nothing much to say about the ride really; overall it was just short of 10 miles, which is decent enough to give me a bit of satisfaction having done it. The 'scenery' wasn't fantastic, I was fairly tired and I can't say I really enjoyed it - although I feel a bit better having had the exercise rather than sitting in front of a computer for a couple of hours. However, upon returning I was quite damp, my tracksuit bottoms in particular which seemed to have soaked up the rain. To my surprise though the roads weren't entirely flooded and I encountered a lot of considerate drivers - more than usual, I'd say - so that was good, I suppose.

I'm inclined to wait until the weather dries up before I go out again. I don't mind the cold but I'm not a fan of returning sodden...!
